Miramichi Biathlete Emma Septon was chosen to participate at the 2015 Canada Games recently held in Prince George, BC.  Although thrilled to participate, it was daunting.  In order to be considered eligible, you must be between 18-20 years of age – Emma is only 15 and required special permission to attend.  Once permission was attained, she was off!  Due to the fact that she was younger and competing in higher age categories, the race lengths were longer than she had ever competed in – the longest at the Games is 12.5 km!  Keeping all that in mind, she competed fantastically!  The “Individual – 12.5 km” was the first race she tackled and faired very well – placing 29/40. She came down with a cold after the first race but chose to continue to compete.  The next race was the “Sprint – 7.5 km” – she placed 38/40.  The “Pursuit – 10 km” was the third race of the week and she was able to redeem herself and placed 29/40.  After the completion of the 3 races, the Coaches of Team NB chose 3 female biathletes to compete in the relay.  Emma was chosen to ski the anchor leg.  The team was in 4th place after the first leg and in 7th place after the 2nd leg.  Emma skied and shot very well but was disqualified.  It was unfortunate but a very good learning experience!

Emma was so proud to represent her club, city and province on the National Stage.  She is determined to stay with the sport she loves and train for the Canada Games in 2019!
